Traveling To Costa Rica, Luxury Family Resorts in Mexico and more

Plus, safety tips for hiking while traveling!

Good morning Traveler,

We have officially hit Daylight Savings Time, which means we are on our way out of Winter for this year (in most parts of the country, at least!). Several years ago to celebrate the end of the Winter, my friends and I booked a last-minute trip out to Costa Rica and I was pleasantly surprised by how accessible (and beautiful) the country was. We rented a condo in a private community just steps from the beach and town in Tamarindo and explored via mopeds.

I have been dreaming of going back ever since, but this time to the town of Dominical, a beautiful coastal town that was put on my radar by our Travel Awaits team. If you’re interested in visiting Costa Rica but want to add it onto a multi-country South America trip, you can check out this list of the 7 best hotels to stay in San Jose (the capital) that are close to the airport and other experiences.

If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, but still south of the U.S., these luxury resorts in Mexico are family-friendly without a shortage of amenities to spoil yourself with. We are deciding which resort to choose for our next big family trip next year. In the meantime, we are also looking forward to a trip to coastal Florida, and used this list as inspiration.

This week’s newsletter turned out to be all about coastal travel, so stay tuned next week for some more local destinations, and even some further away!

Safe travels,

The Travel Awaits Team

COSTA RICA

7 Reasons To Visit Dominical Beach, Costa Rica

Stumbling upon the sleepy but vibrant beach town of Dominical was the happiest accident of my trip to Costa Rica. Dominical is pure paradise, striking the perfect balance between wild nature and modern comfort — but it’s an off-the-beaten-path gem that most tourists miss. I only planned on staying one night, but I wound up spending two blissful weeks in Dominical.

COSTA RICA

7 Best Hotels In San Jose, Costa Rica (Near Airport)

If you’ve never traveled to Costa Rica, then there’s one thing you should know before flying into San Jose Airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport): There is A LOT of traffic, and it can take hours to get out of the city.

If you’re renting a car, and heading to the mountains of the coast, it’s recommended to do so during daylight hours so you don’t get lost. Meaning if your Juan Santamaría International Airport flight lands at night, you’re probably going to want to spend the night near the airport before getting on the road. But where exactly should you stay?
